Our experiences of letting holiday houses to dog owners
and their dogs has been that (at the risk of stating the obvious) it is
not the number, or size of dogs that is relevant, it is how well
socialised, friendly and house trained they are that matters.
As the owners of dogs ourselves, we understand that dogs are
much loved family members, and people want their dogs to enjoy their
holidays as much as they do.
All we ask of dog owners that holiday with us is that their dogs are
friendly towards other dogs, reasonably trained so that they won’t chase
or kill our poultry and other livestock, are house trained and have
current vaccinations and flea treatment. We also ask that you do not
allow your dog/s onto the furniture, and if your dogs are muddy, to
clean them prior to letting them into carpeted areas of the house. It
is surprising how dirty dogs can get, so bringing plenty of dog towels
is a good idea!
Please also remember to bring a torch—we don’t have street lights
here so nights can be very dark and a torch is needed for evening dog
walks or walking to and from the local pub etc. |
Dog facilities
Most holiday cottage agencies state that dogs must never be left
unattended in the house – we use our discretion about that, if it is a
baking hot summer day, and you know that your dog will be happy left in
the kitchen of the house, won’t howl with misery all day and/or eat the
fixtures and fittings, then we will allow dogs to be left unattended,
provided you have talked to us prior to leaving them, so we know they
are in the house. This is of course at our discretion, and leaving dogs
unattended should definitely be seen as the exception rather than the
rule.
We have an eight acre airstrip which guests are
welcome to use for dog walking/exercising/playing. Guests in the Linhay also have direct access from their garden to
a couple of our fields that they can use.
We often have dogs come here on holiday that normally never get
the opportunity to exercise off the lead, due to busy roads etc. We have
a quiet local lane at the bottom of our drive, and another at the top of
the airfield, which is approx. 800 metres away, so it is a safe place to
give your dog the freedom to run off the lead, well away from traffic.
Most people say that their dogs sleep really well here, due to all the
off lead exercise they enjoy.
There are outside taps and hoses for hosing off muddy dogs, or if the
weather is cold you are welcome to use the heated shower in our utility
room to wash your dogs if necessary.
A number of beaches are closed to dogs in the summer, so information
is provided regarding which beaches are open to dogs in
the main holiday season. If you have any problems with your dog/s
needing veterinary attention, we have a very good relationship with our
local veterinary practice (probably because we give them so much money
over the course of a year!), so help or advice is always available. |
